Building a Hybrid Functional Reference Architecture – Part 7 – Service Usage

In the last podcast we described how to provision a service and how the automation enabled the set-up, change and shut-down of a service instance. Let’s now look at how the service instance can actually be used by the user and what happens in the background to enable monitoring and metering of the service. There are a couple elements that need discussion. They are related to asset management so the environment knows at any time what resources are used and which ones are available. Metering the service enables the show back or charge back of the costs associated with the running of the service instances. These enable the reporting to the user of his/her actual consumption.

Let’s listen to the podcast itself. Enjoy

In our next podcast we will address the service assurance, in other words, look at how we measure whether the service instance is operating properly.
